Some cool new projects starting recently. I’m posting this new tribal on our friend Patrick. Despite being his very first tattoo, I give him my props for holding it pretty well.
Let’s see how far we can go on the next session!

Total of 4 sessions. Each session took about 3 hours, 1 hour for drawing and preparation and 2 for actual tattooing.
I’m pretty satisfied with the result and all props goes to our friend Nico. He stood very very well! And remember, this is his 1st tattoo. Congrats bro!
ニコ君、よくがんばりました！ファーストタトゥー（これ何度も書いている。。。w）にしてとても強かったです。頼もしいです。当分イキッテ大丈夫です！

The original work was done by Gill the boss around 6 years ago. I’m adding some more down the elbow, more or less in the same style.
Personally, it is interesting to do this kind of tattoo. I like to “read” through it and imagine what the tattooer was aiming while he was working.
De-codifying these messages are the key to open my own visions to new designs and dimensions.
One more session, and then we hope to finish this piece
継足し、継足し。この手の仕事は個人的に好きです。色々と想像がわきます。以前彫ったアーティストが何をイメージしていたか。その先、何を見ていたか。
それにまた命をふきこみます。決して大げさではないです。
タトゥーは生き物なんです。その人その物だからこそ、これから先どう進化していくのか。
それを想像しながら未来へ継ぎ足しているんです。

Second session of our friend Christian. We did a longer one this time, as usually I do not “go crazy” so to speak on the first meeting.
Reasons vary. I know the customer is “crazy” and excited to go as far as it can go, and have lot’s done and possibly see the finished result ASAP.
Again, everything have it’s own balance. I do prefer to start slowly at the first meeting, as I need to become familiar with the person so to speak.
Not that we need to become friends, but I need to learn the reactions and results for each individual (Colors, shading results for instance)
Some people can sit still for hours. Many people can’t stand the next few days with a swallow and painful arm.
So, that’s the balance I’m talking about.
I’m already excited to see what we will achieve on the upcoming session…

今回（二回目）で腕の部分は大体終了。次回は胸のデザインを足していきます。
胸は日本の刺青柄（バックグラウンド）をメインで作り上げて行こうと思っています。

Tattoo done for first session (3 hours). More will be added.
一回目で仕上がったタトゥー（３時間）。次回に続きます。
Same story as cover-ups, amount of space given dictates the result.
The difference is, at the end the tattoo should look “natural” and flow as a single piece.
I can’t wait for our next session!
カバーアップに続き、今回は手直し&継足し。
こちらも同じく、どれだけスペースを使えるかによりいい仕上がりになるかという事である。
今回は新しく伸ばした部分を黒く塗るまでの段階でとりあえず終了。
次回は腕の後ろ側の部分やトライバルの周りのシェーディング（ボカシ）をふやしていく予定。
こういった仕事は個人的にすごくチャレンジを感じて楽しいです。
最終的にはタトゥーに一体感が出れば最高ですが。

Cover-up tattoo

Cover-ups don’t need necessarily to be made only with Tribal. Obviously black is the strongest color to “hide” any other tones.
The request in this case was to work with this particular style.
My advice was to add some of shaded “blades” coming out and around the black design to give a contrast and of course, to distract a little bit of too much dark color in just one spot.
There’s no secret for a good cover up result. It all relies on space that can be used. Bigger, the better.
And I do my best on how much and how big can be spent on the tattoo.
The result was pleasant for both sides.
久しぶりに一回で終わったタトゥー。カバーアップは必ずしもトライバルスタイルでしか出来ないと言う訳では決して無いが、たまたまそういうリクエストだったんで。
その後またつなげる事を設定をした上でのタトゥーなので、今回はここまで。
いくらこっちがもっと大きくしたいと思っても、お客さんの時間とお金の都合もあるので、そこは出来る範囲でリクエストに答えるのが仕事だと思う。
お互いが納得いく結果で終わった時が一番気持ちいいです。
Tribal Wikinger tattoo
Continuing to extend the former tattoo (check here) to his back.
I had done a lot of animals in tribal style (such popular as dragons), but this one will be unique.
I know it will be tricky to “transform” a Viking in tribal, but some etchings I had seen on Escher’s museum back then (read it here) gave me some inspiration to play/incorporate on my tattoos.
Have to confess it will be a tough one! Challenge accepted…
前回（こちら）の仕上がったタトゥーから新たに背中に繋げ始めました。
龍等、動物をトライバルで彫るというのは多々あったが、今回のテーマは人物（ヴァイキング）。
この様な初めてチャレンジする柄は楽しい＆燃えますネ。
去年エッシャー美術館（こちら）で見た作品が参考になりました。やっぱ、色々な物を見ておくべきと感じたし、行っておいて得した感もあります。
すでに次何処へ行こうかなと考え始めながらタトゥーへそれらを反映させたいですね。
