Gateway to success, is the translation I found for this time featured drawing Touryuumon. I know it sounds strange in English to title such a fierce design. I tried to find the description on Wikipedia, but seems that they don’t have it in English.
So, here’s the explanation:
1-The carp climbs a waterfall, it’s the sign of perseverance in Japan.
2-The close the carp reaches the top of waterfall, he’s getting hit more and more harder by the water. His fins start to break apart. His face and body start to disintegrate. This is the most hard step for the carp, thus the name: Gateway to success.
3-When finally he succeeded to climb the waterfall (breaking the gateway), he don’t have a shape of a carp. Now he became a dragon and fly’s high to the sky. It means that he achieved his goal.
Well, this is a very simplified explanation of the carp/ dragon story.
You can note that the design is a mix of a carp and dragon for this reason.
But the word itself (Touryuumon) is commonly used in Japan to describe the hard task to “break through” in business, study or life in general.

登竜門。昨日の書いた様に、自分の現在の状況とオーバーラップするデザインが出来たらいいなと。なにげに登竜門を描いていたら、確かにここは俺の登竜門になるであろうと思いながら（願いながら）思い込んでみた。
努力、才能、運。成功するにはこういうもんが必要ですよと、よく”成功するための本”みたいな宣伝が電車の中に見かけたような気がする。
俺は個人的に”思い込み”も必要だと思う。それは祈りとか、願いとかとはちょっと違うメンタルな部分だと思う。
要するに、自分の頭や気持ちをそっちに持っていく事。よくスポーツ選手は”イメージトレーニング”を使うというが、それに近いんじゃないかなと。
僕も海外で活動したいという思い込みを持っていたし、実際こっちに来たら本当のスタートになったわけだからここからの新たな思い込みを持ってなければならない。
実際にはいくつかはあるし。ただ、それは公表しません。思い込みは危険な一面もあるんで、あまり思い込みだけが激しくなるとストーカーじゃないけど、一方的な気持ちの表現になってしまうし。
自分もその過ちはしたし、繰返さないためにも今はしまっておきたい。
何時かそれが成功というか、自分の納得いった形なれば自然と皆の耳に届くであろう。。。

The elephant with six ivory, form the dream of Buddha’s mother.
It took a little while to complete this one, as I was out during the weekend. But today, I had worked on a small tattoo and then had plenty of time to draw up.
While I still assimilating the work’s system and pace, I can’t stop to drawing and practicing.
I must keep my techniques updated and hoping that customers can choose a tattoo from my drawings, past and present.
That’s how I always worked. Up on arrival in a new environment, in a different or new situations. It makes your brain spin faster.
I learned that during my stint’s as a guest artist in various shop’s around the world.
Nobody knows you, and it takes a while to get the trust from customers.
For mental practice and exercise, to keep you in line is extremely necessary to keep your hands busy.
Be it tuning up machines, making needles or setting up things around in the shop.
Customers see it. They understand it. They feel it.
When you’re doing nothing, your blood get’s sucked big time. Small talks don’t make good tattoos.
Good tattoos are made by small actions.

仕事の合間に仕上げた一枚。どんどんペースがつかみ始めたんで描くのが楽しみになってきた。
この調子でこっちでの仕事システムにも慣れていく事を願う。ただし、願ってだけでは慣れないんで。こうして絵を描いたりしてアピールしながら、自分のスキルも磨いていかないと意味がない。
お客さんはやっぱりいきなりは信用してくれないんで。少しずつ、根拠よく、と自分に言い聞かせながらタトゥーを彫って絵を描く。
気持ちに焦りや不安はないと言ったらウソだし。
誰にだって初めての環境や経験にはそれは付き物。

像はそれをある意味表してる動物ではないか。体は大きいけど、何処か不安そうな雰囲気を醸し出している。だけど、いざとなったらドスドスと走り始めその大きい体でバタバタと周りを取っ払いながら進んでいく。
勝手にそのイメージを自分とオーバーラップしながら描いてみた。
こうした角度からも絵にするのも楽しみの一つである。
何も物語ばかり囚われる必要はないと思う。物語は物語。自分の現実がイメージとなり、また新たな物語に発展するかもしれない。
それが”オリジナル”という物なのかな？

２００９年作。最初に普賢菩薩（ふげんぼさつ）を彫り、その後六牙の白象（ろくげ‐の‐びゃくぞう）を足した。

As I posted yesterday, I will upload this project in particular without “editing” it.
It goes whatever way it comes out.
Obviously when I’m drawing, I putting my efforts on it. What I want to say here, is that each is a straight result expressed on what had gone through my head that day.
Sometimes it worked fine and smooth, sometimes I had things along the way to complete the piece.

I’m not just drawing or tattooing in between. There’s many tasks on a tattoo shop that need to be followed rigorously day by day. Cleaning work stations, checking up with customers, keeping an eye on things.
Depending how is the day, it surely will affect.

Growing day by day, needs care and attention from others. But also, the will to grow coming from the very one, is essential.

今回は獏。彫っている合間、お客さんと打合せをしている合間、ちょっとでも時間が出来たら描くようにしている。
この習慣は東京にいた時からついているもんで、何も描いていないと気持ち悪いし、正直後ろめたい。
絵が全てじゃないかもしれない、この仕事では。
でもやっぱり絵が基本。忘れないために今日もまた描く

Still more to improve on this line and shade only format. It’s getting pretty more fun day by day
I always have no tight plans before starting a drawing series. The very first drawing is the one that dictates which direction should I head for.
Not all the ideas go further, and I’m a bit cautious to release it before completing.
Same applies to tattoos in progress, but I decided to take the risk and go further.
It’s a positive way to push myself to move on. In case of tattooing, it take’s 2 to tango.
So, I can’t guarantee how fast and in which timing works can be updated here. By no means I don’t want put pressure on clients just to “show off” so to speak.
I want to present an honest blog.
And it’s not shameful to state in public if some project doesn’t go further for whatever reason.
Knowing when to stop is much as important as a starting.

普段は色や影をビッチリ入れて描くんで、ラインだけをメインでと言うのはちょっと気持ち的に引けたけ
まあ、今は”スケッチブック”という名目でこの描き方で彫師の本が沢山出回ってます
それにあやかるわけではないけど、このシリーズがどこまで続くかちょっと挑戦してみたい
何より今まで描いた事ない題材を元にしてるんで勉強になる
もちろんここから実際に彫る柄としてお客さんに選んでもらったらもっと嬉しいが
明日は何を描こうかな？

Giving continuation to the Yokai project. First of a series, Hiryū.

Trying a new technique with mostly outlines and shading only. It proved to be more difficult than I expected. The more simple you try, more intricate you think.
ちょっと前にスタートしたシリーズ。一つ目は飛龍。ラインと少々のボカシのみで描いてみたが、逆に難しい。シンプルに描こうと思うほど、頭は複雑に考えてしまう。多分気持ちのバランスが取れた時、その答えが出るだろう
