Haters gonna hate!
Politically incorrect flash works…previous post of War & Hate project, here and here

Just finished my side on this interesting and (why not) controversial piece. If art is agitation, I’m not sure. But it reflect moments and feelings. I’m sure about that.

So, I just played a little bit with the words on this one as well. If you read the top and bottom (respectively) all together, it becomes a one piece phrase:
“From heaven they came a blessing from Riyadh?”
And still as individual drawings, they carry the “message” out.

Color wise, I went through the black and grey tones to keep it equal to Old Horse’s drawing.
I guess we are “nailing” slowly the objective of this project, and each flash are merging together as a single piece. But, keeping the individuality from both sides.

このプロジェクトも順調に進んでいますね。お互い仕事とそれぞれ下絵を描いている中で、遊び心や挑戦をこうした形で表現して行けるのは大切な事です。
正直大変ですが、毎回新しい発見や驚きがある。
今回も新しい書体や道具を試す絶好の機会でした。今度はそれを自分の下絵等に生かしていきたいですね。
次回も楽しみです！

It’s always a good surprise to receive a new drawing from my friend Old Horse (his blog here)
Makes me humble to spin in ideas and challenges my mind to a new redemption of tattoo (or not) related drawings.
We are working on War & Hate theme, and I will fill in the other half of his drawing based in some propaganda posters I found in a war memorial museum. See my drawing and the story here

下絵が届きました！スウェーデンのブラッドワークタトゥー（ブログはこちら）から今回のテーマ戦争と憎しみ！
彼はオールドスクールタトゥーを専門としているんで、今までこのプロジェクトで普段描いているスタイル
（こちら）と全くことなっているんで、どう自分がうめるかこれから楽しみです。
因みに、僕は以前戦争博物館で見た第二次大戦中のポスターをベースにします。
以下、そのポスターの一部です

日本がバッシングされている物を見ると心が痛みますね。。。

歴史を忘れない事は大切だけど、許すという心構えも同じくらい大切なのかな？

日本では戦争と言うのは切っても切れないテーマであり、こちら（ヨーロッパ）も同じである。終戦から数十年以上経った今でもなお、その爪跡はあらゆる所で残っているし、人々の心に奥深く暗い影を残している。
差別や妬みと言う感情が親から子へ受継がれており、簡単に消える事はないだろう。

戦争博物館に行ってそれが伝わって来た。
今回のテーマが決定した：戦争と憎しみ。
重いテーマかも知れないけど、今回はあえて戦争。と言うのも実はタトゥーと縁が深い物で、そのルーツはアメリカ南北戦争時代には多くの兵士が好んでタトゥーを戦場で戦っていながら（！）彫ってもらっていた事から、その後の第二次大戦にもその”伝統”が受継がれ、兵士は皆タトゥーを彫っていた。

その逆に悲しい繋がりもある。強制的にユダヤ人達は腕に数字を彫られ、証明番号として使われたり。
一番上の写真は強制収容所で無理やりはぎ取られたタトゥーが展示されていた（その方の名前も掲載されている）
それを見た時に、人間は何かの手段で自分を表現するとき、自分の意見を表す時には必ずそれをつぶしにかかる権力や人が居るんだなと思った。
”出る杭は打たれる、でも出過ぎた杭はもう打てない”何処かで読んだ事ある言葉。それも同時に思い出して今日も出過ぎるくらい表現していきます。
Fight the power!

The new tattoo flash project theme is “War & Hate”. I got the idea after visiting a war memorial museum.
The visit itself made me think how war can define aesthetics in general (depending on winning results, so to speak).
Certain symbols get banned. Flag designs are changed. Colors become synonymous of evil or good, justice or punishment.

As you all know, Japan also were severely affected by the war in different aspects of life. Stigmas and shadows that still (after more than 60 years) helping to confuse the thin line between pride and patriotism.
Tattoos deals a lot with this symbolism. Be it an eagle spreading his wings or a samurai holding a sword fiercely.
It subconsciously connect us with sentiments of pride and dignity.

A World cup is approaching, elections were held in EU, and once again those themes of racism and vociferous nationalism/ patriotism will be on rise again.
Tattoos are codifying these sentiments? Tattoos are a transgression of those feelings?
Or they are “just” tattoos?
Don’t believe the hype!

Again, with all the daily shop tasks and preparations for upcoming conventions (Did you checked the schedules here?), I forgot to take my drawing photo (with my real camera) before sending the parcel to my friend Horse (his blog here)
Well, but you can still enjoy and have an a idea of our current theme Man & Women.
His redemption to old Hamburg’s tattooer and legend Herbert Hoffmann (Wikipedia page here) and my version of freedom fighting women East and West.
Coincidence or not, Herbert Hoffmann “fought” for his craft (tattooing was looked down by the Nazi’s at his life time) as well.
I guess the message is there (from different perspectives) that tattooing stands for/ from the “against” sentiments (be it physical or mental oppressions)

Now, time to fill in the other half page of each others flash.
Soooo many ideas popping up in my head now…
End of this month we will be (as usual) publishing the final result on our respective blogs. Keep your eyes open!

またもお店の日々の忙しさとコンベンション準備等で自分の下絵を本チャンのカメラで撮り忘れ。。。
でも今回のテーマ男と女の雰囲気は伝わるかなと思います。
マーカスはハンブルグ（ドイツ）で長らく活躍した彫師ハーバト　ホフマンのオリジナル下絵からヒント。
日本ではあまり知られていない名前ですが、ヨーロッパでは彼の与えた影響は大きいです。
めずらしく、日本語で彼に関する記事を見付けたんでこちらをご覧ください。

僕のバージョンは。。。まあ色々と（笑）　
ガチな政治的意図はありません！でも思っている事・感じている事は発信しなければなりません。
ホフマン氏もナチス政権下でタトゥーを一つのアンチテーゼとして彫っていたかは別として、彫る行為自体が”反”であったため、タトゥーはどの時代でも”反”の代表であるべきだと思います。

これからお互いのフラッシュ（下絵）を埋めていきます、楽しみですネ

The finished Life & Death flashes from my side. Please check Horse‘s blog for his version here
I based my drawings on Russian prison tattoos this time.
Check a nice publishing company releasing books on this subject here

Wrongly I assumed that it would be more simplistic in terms of colors, as usually prison tattoos (elsewhere) are done solely with black and not so much intricate shadings, using mainly bold outlining and dot’s for filling in blank spaces.

Well, I don’t wanna see any dots for a little while…(laughs)

Obviously I emulated the “style” of prison tattoos and not their designs itself. A little “twist & switch” towards the dark subject of killing and be killed by music (or what a music style stands for).
Rap, Black Metal and tattoos. An a explosive combination?
Just for the record, my drawings were made under these soundtracks blasting on my Spotify.

Another source of inspiration was the movie Siberian Education. I will not say if (the movie) was good or bad, as I solely watched (or payed attention) on tattoo related scenes. And it is featured a lot throughout the story.
The crude hand poke procedure is pretty much legit I can say.

Giving continuation to this exciting project, at end of March we will be launching the next flash. keep your eyes open!

僕のバージョンが仕上がったのでアップ。マーカス側の下絵はこちら
今回はロシアの刑務所タトゥーをベースにデザインを考えました。テーマが生と死なんで、暗い雰囲気の下絵に仕上げたかった。勿論刑務所タトゥーその物をデザイン化するのではなく、ちょっとヒネリとヒューモアをかえた物にした。
２パックは殺されたラッパー（下絵上）。バーズム（バンド）のヴァルグ・ヴィーケネスは自身のバンドメンバーを殺した（下絵下）。音楽も生と死を表現する。タトゥーもそれらを表すものとしてラップやメタルと合体するとこういう感じになるかなと描いてみました。

後は映画Siberian Education『シベリアン・エデュケーション（原題）』（2013年　伊・ジョン・マルコヴィッチ主演）もヒントになりました。映画の中でかなりの率でタトゥーネタが登場するので、そっちばかり観て話の内容がイマイチ理解していませんw

This is the 3rd attempt of this tattoo flash project between me and Blood Work Tattoo’s Old Horse from Sweden. Check his blog here

We even decided a name (the title of this post) for the project. Guess we’re getting pretty serious, but having fun above all to do this thing.
From the next one’s we will do one sheet only. Matter of time and other projects from me and Horse’s. It would make things awkward if we keep painting 2 sheets every time.

Well, sounds like numbers don’t make a huge difference (being it 1 or 2 sheets). But again, fun should prevail!
Oh, and BTW, this time the theme is “Life & Death”. Enjoy!

スウェーデンのブラッドワークタトゥーとお馴染みのフラッシュ・下絵コラボです。
前回はこちらをご覧ください。
これで祝三回目になりました。今回のテーマ―は”生と死”。ありふれたテーマ―かも知れませんが、決まってスカル（骸骨）が登場しますし、でもタトゥーでは外せない物ではないでしょうか。
要するに”定番”と言われるテーマ―が一番難しいという事ですね。
個性を出しつつ、やりすぎないように。。。
難しい！続きは今月末までにお互いの下絵に何を描くかが楽しみです。
また紹介しますので、皆さんもお楽しみに！

Well, it took me a entire day off to draw this 2 flashes and I still wonder why. OK, recently I’m being a little bit more careful when I do paint the flashes but still myself feeling guilty for all the slowness.
Quality should speak over quantity obviously. Looking back to the drawings done back in Japan; I can’t lie that few things were roughly done in a hurry.
I honestly accept the criticism, and I do recognize that time seemed to be a issue back them.
Without perceiving, my feelings were unstable due to the uncertainty of the shops future. And, I do believe it came (in a negative form) as a rough results.
There’s few things I wanna clear myself before the end of this year. Places that I will visit and re-visit my points and perspectives. I wish they will be reflected on my future drawings and consequently on my tattoos.
I thank again my friend Horse from Sweden for this collaboration drawing project. It’s been fun, and foremost an a eye opener.
You never walk alone!

年末でクソ忙しかったが、この下絵２枚を仕上げるために自前に一日休みの日をキープしておいた。
時間はかかってしまったが、新たな発見があったりとやはりこのプロジェクトはとても楽しい。
近々ブログに載せますけど、自分の絵等を見直すために行きたい場所が一ヵ所あります。
もちろん年末の休みを利用してそこへ行きます。
皆さんも楽しい有効な年末休みをお過ごし下さい。

Early Xmas gift or hate mail?
Both. And in good terms should I add. “Hate mail”, as it boosts my imagination to make something better for the next flash, and hate can lead to creativeness too. Isn’t all ’bout love, right?
Thanx to my friend and fellow tattooer Old Horse. Your humor, sarcasm and hard work will pay back brother…No sleep ’till Valhalla!

Round 1 of the flash project! I’m really proud for this first step. And like any project, the first step is very crucial!
I had done similar things in the past, but I can’t really remember of being so happy with the result and the overall concept.
The big “problem” with this kind of collaboration drawings is that sometimes the other guy comes so eager in do something unbelievable crazy or so super-technical that at the end kinda destroys the whole sheet, making it looking like a mess, a blast of colors and shapes.

And I guess, we kinda succeed in keep the bullshit pride/ ego thing locked somewhere.
And, because we are working respectively in different tattoo styles; I guess it does not hurt each othere’s in that sense.
All in all, I hope you find the idea interesting! Would be great to have more artists involved in something like this in the future. Who knows? Who wants?

とりあえずプロジェクト第一弾、出来上がりました！
今までの流れはこちらからご覧いただき、リンクを追って行けばさかのぼって行きます。
以前もこういった感じでコラボはいくつかやった記憶はあるんだが、何せ手元にその下絵が残っていないためハッキリ覚えていません。
残念だが、こういう企画をやるとタトゥーアーティストによっては全面的に自分のスタイルだけを押通そうとする人もいるんで、最終的な仕上がりがとてつもなく解りにくかったりするんで、第三者から見たらつまらない出来になっているのが多いような気がする。

マーカスと僕はお互い違ったタトゥースタイルを追求しているというのもあり、変に相手を”突き落とそう”というのは無い。って言うか、彼の温和でユーモアに溢れている人柄が絵やタトゥーにも出ているし。彼とだから出来たかもしれません。
